Lego model of Resistance House Band playing on stage

We’re the Resistance House Band. We play songs about zombies…kinda.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Resistance House Band is an alternative/grunge/power-pop band with songs that (when actually played in order) form a cohesive storyline about a group of humans weathering the effects of a zombie apocalypse. It’s essentially a soundtrack for a film that never got made. Because of the fictional aspects of the band, influences include bands like Nirvana, the Replacements, Local H, Fountains of Wayne, and Archers of Loaf and films and novels like ScreamEvil Dead10 Cloverfield LaneThe Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and The Martian Chronicles.

Currently, the band’s lineup features John Sims-Jones on guitar and vocals, Brian Williams on bass, and Joseph West on drums. The only founding member, John came up with the concept for the band in 2009 after encountering a book called It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Zombies by Michael Spradlin. At the time, he had been playing bass for a wizard rock band called the Godric Gryffindors, and the book sparked the idea of creating a new type of topic rock band that wasn’t tied to another author’s universe. After leaving the bookstore, he immediately went home to write the first Resistance House Band song, “Could You Love a Zombie?” Once enough material had been written to fill a short set, he booked the first Resistance House Band show in May 2010, playing alone on an electric guitar. Over time, more members were added, and the premise of the band evolved into the darkly sarcastic and self-deprecating storyline of self-satisfied conspiracy theorists, mediocre college kids, and overly maligned mad scientists all trying to carve out an existence in an apocalyptic wasteland.

Since 2010, Resistance House Band has played hundreds of shows across Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, and Kentucky. They have opened for touring acts like Pink Spiders and Michael Graves and been featured performers for events like the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention (MTAC) and ICCCon. Several EPs and music videos have been released throughout their career, the most recent of which being the five-track EP We Tried to Warn You All, released on Halloween in 2022. The band is currently preparing to record a full length album, the first of three planned releases that will correspond to the three act structure seen in most films.

TL;DR – Imagine Wes Craven’s Scream was about zombies instead of slashers, Fountains of Wayne wrote a bunch of songs about it, and then Nirvana covered those songs. That’s basically us.
